Community Fundraising Results & Winners from the Recent ‘100 Squares Challenge’

As the squadron does annually, we attended Ystrad Mynach Food, Drink & Music Festival at the end of April, then we were in attendance at Bargoed Spring Fair at the beginning of May. Both were great in their own rights, whilst the settings were different they both brought a great deal of community engagement, giving our cadets the experience of meeting members of the public and growing their overall confidence.

During both events, we thought that we would try something a little different for driving fundraising efforts, and this was with our ‘100 Squares Challenge’ board. It was £5 per square to enter, open to both staff and members of the public and if we hadn’t sold all 100 squares at our first event, the draw would roll over to the end of the Bargoed Spring Fair event.

The draw was conducted after the event due to logistical reasons getting our stand packed away and all the cadets safely to their lifts, so whilst we had some inadvertent delays to publicising the draw, we’re pleased to share with our stakeholders the below video of the draw…

The Squadron ‘100 Squares Challenge’ Draw which has been videoed for transparency. It shows the Three Winning Numbers and all winners are being contacted.

The Three Winning Numbers Were;

1st Prize of £50 to Alan Angel

2nd Prize of £30 to Geoffrey Bott

3rd Prize of £10 to CivCom Chair

Whilst we only broke even for this fundraising attempt, we are very appreciative for all the people who took part and assisted the squadron in trying something a little different.

We are contacting all winners now the draw has taken place.

Bucket Fundraising:

As with most years that the squadron attends to aforementioned community events, we not only attend to engage with members of the public and potentially recruit for each years new intake of Cadets from the local area, we also collect kind donations from our #RoamingCadets.

Across both events, we raised an additional £65.24 which is deposited into the Squadron’s Civilian Committee controlled and managed account, for near future use on any aspect that the Squadron via the Officer Commanding or his Cadets need to improve their experiences.

You can read more about the work of the Civilian Committee as an Unregistered ‘Excepted’ Charity, how we are structured, how we work with the Officer Commanding to ultimately increase the positive experiences to the Cadets of Today within the squadron.
