We Need More Local Volunteers - Could That Be You?

At 2353 (Ystrad Mynach) Squadron, Royal Air Force Air Cadets, we give young people from our community incredible opportunities. From flying and adventure training to teamwork, leadership, and community service.

But none of this can happen without the amazing adults who volunteer their valuable time to help make it all work here at the squadron.

We’re looking for more Cadet Forces Adult Volunteers (CFAVs) to join our friendly and dedicated team. As our cadet numbers grow and our activities expand, we need extra hands and hearts to keep offering the best experiences possible, as we naturally have safeguarding ratio’s to adhere to on every parade evening.

Whether you’re someone who enjoys working with young people, loves the outdoors, has useful skills to share, or just wants to give something back - we’d love to hear from you.

Why Volunteer with Us?

Volunteering with the RAF Air Cadets is rewarding, social, and full of new experiences. You’ll gain skills, confidence, and friendships - all while helping young people achieve their best.

As a volunteer, you can:

  • Make a difference to local young people’s lives.

  • Learn and teach new skills, from first aid to leadership.

  • Get involved in exciting activities like adventure training, flying, and expeditions.

  • Be part of a supportive community that values teamwork and respect.

Full training and guidance are provided, and you can volunteer as much or as little as your schedule allows.

Typical roles include:

  • Squadron Instructor (Uniformed or Civilian) – Help run training nights, activities, and events for cadets.

  • Civilian Committee Member – Support fundraising, admin, and the charitable running of the squadron.

  • Admin, Logistics or Welfare Support – Help behind the scenes to keep things running smoothly.

  • Specialist Instructor – Share your knowledge in areas like STEM, first aid, navigation, or DofE.

Volunteer recruitment and placement is delivered through the Volunteering Wales website.
